CRAIG'S JOURNEY

Craig Wilson opened Eat on the Green in 2004, transforming what was once a small village pub, in the quaint village of Udny Green, into a high quality fine-dining restaurant.  Since then, Eat on the Green has become known as one of the best restaurants in Aberdeenshire, securing numerous accolades in its six years.

Born and bred in the north east, Craig is a proud father to Zak, 10, Yasmin, 8 and baby Jay.  His passion for food began at the age of 16, when he started out as a trainee chef at the Strathburn Hotel in Inverurie.  Leaving his rural roots behind, Craig moved to Perthshire to work at Ballathie House Hotel, before taking the job as head chef at one of the finest luxury hotels in Scotland, Cromlix House, at the young age of 24.  This led him to become one of the youngest head chef’s in the country and also one of the youngest chefs to achieve 2 AA rosettes for his culinary skills.

After three years with Cromlix House, Craig took on a different role in new product development with Grampian Country Foods, before heading to Grimsby to continue his development chef role with Baxter’s Food Group.  During this time, Craig was nominated to appear on TV cookery challenge, Pot Idol, hosted by Lorraine Kelly.  Craig’s flair for using everyday ingredients to create a range of different dishes earned him a place in the final, raising his profile across Scotland and resulted in his now famous nickname - ‘The Kilted Chef’ which he was affectionately called by Lorraine Kelly.

Inspired to open his own restaurant, serving high quality food using the finest local ingredients, Craig returned to the north east and Eat on the Green was born.  Craig has received wide recognition both from loyal guests who return time and time again and from local and national industry awards.  He is supported by a conscientious and talented team, who consistently deliver on his high standards of food and service.

Hailed as a fantastic Scottish chef by First Minister Alex Salmond, Craig has been honoured to cook for many high profile celebrities including Sir Sean Connery, Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Patrick Stewart.  Craig’s passion for food and using only the best local ingredients also helped him to clinch a win for Scotland in a culinary Six National Tournament on Irish television programme - The Afternoon Show.  Going head to head with one of Ireland’s Michelin starred chefs, Craig took home the title for his true taste of Scotland.

As a result of the success of the business Craig was asked to consult to Inverurie Garden Centre then initially food consultant for Cocoa Bar & Bistro which has led to Craig taking control of both the kitchen and front of house.
